I’m now a City of London Guide

I’m delighted to announce that I’ve just passed my exams, and I’m now a qualified Green Badge Guide in the City of London.

Bank Junction and the Royal Exchange

The City of London, sometimes referred to as The City, or The Square Mile, is the oldest part of London, its historic core and its financial district. Located roughly within the boundaries of the original settlement that was founded by the Romans, and built on top of the Roman city, it has its own administration, customs and practices, distinct from the rest of London.

33 &35 Eastcheap, R L Roumieu (1868), with 20 Fenchurch Street, the “Walkie Talkie”, Rafael Viñoly (2009) looming over it.

It’s a fascinating place, with lots to see and many stories to tell, packed into a small and easily walkable area, Although it’s the oldest part of London, it has undergone constant change and renewal throughout its history. Within an area of just over a square mile, there are amazing sights, from Roman ruins to cutting-edge contemporary architecture.

In this blog, I’ll be sharing places and stories about the City, although I’ll also be writing about other things and places that interest me.
